The following letter from Elizabeth (Libbie) Souhrada Kinchner (1897-1995) to her second Cousin Elizabeth (Lizzie) Wosoba (1896-1989) was written just 10 days before the end of WWI. Note reference to our Souhrada boys serving overseas and the Spanish flu pandemic which took the lives of millions worldwide.

Dear Elizabeth,
Have been
thinking of writing to you for some time so will drop you a few lines tonight.
Have been rather lonesome at times since father (John Souhrada) went back to
Montana. No doubt I’ll be going back myself soon.
Heard from the boys in France. My younger brother (Vladimar Souhrada, age 18)
has been in a hospital but is okay again. My oldest brother (Jerry Souhrada,
age 26) has been “over the top” several times. Says he has a pocket full of
luck. Hope it keeps on. Where is Otto now and do you hear from him? Give him my
best regards when you write.
Have you had the flu yet? I had a slight attack of it about two weeks ago.
There is much death here, sorrow everywhere. Hope it “blows over” soon. All
public places closed too.
Suppose you’re busy with fall work. How is everything and everybody? Remember
me to your mother. Would appreciate hearing from you occasionally.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
