2018 Souhrada Family Reunion - # 36 August 10th-12th, 2018 Best Western Technology Park Cedar Falls, Iowa Hosted by: Dave and Cherie Souhrada; Janel Stephens This year’s reunion activities kicked off with pizza and drinks Friday evening (courtesy of Robin Souhrada and her spouse, Dave Rogers) in the hotel conference room. The room was reserved for us the entire weekend which was very convenient and quickly became the hub of activities and a gathering place for all. The room was also well stocked with refreshments, snacks, and kolaches! Your neighborhood grocery store kolaches just wouldn’t do, so Dave and Cherie drove all the way to Spillville to get the very best kolaches. Saturday lunch was held a short distance away at “Barn Happy” restaurant. What an excellent choice. According to their website, the restaurant was “transformed from a dairy barn built in 1925, and has become a business that works to preserve the agricultural heritage and values of the heartland in Cedar Falls, Iowa”. The afternoon activities began with a group photo (actually, several group photos!), a presentation by Pete on his ancestry DNA results, and a showing of Anton Vanicek’s excellent video on our Souhrada family history and homelands. Pete also alerted everyone that some web browsers may start showing souhrada.com as "not secure" since most of the webpages are not encrypted. Encrypting the website requires an HTPPS certificate which can be expensive and somewhat complex to implement. Visitors to the website should not be overly concerned with this warning since we do not collect any personal information from site visitors. Pete will investigate possible low cost options for encrypting website traffic and perhaps make it more mobile (small screen) friendly. After the formal presentations, a delicious buffet dinner was served followed by the ever-popular auction of donated items conducted by Dave Souhrada, Crystal Merrill, and Gary Willimack. The auction proceeds help defer the costs of future reunions.
