2018 Souhrada Family Reunion – the 10th reunion held in the Czech Republic

Another successful reunion of the Souhrada family was held in Bernartice near Milevsko. A total of 58 Souhradas and two musicians attended. As always, the meeting of the bagpipes, this time Mike Cwach the bagpiper from South Dakota and now from the cottage in Hodonice near Bechyně, the Mayor of Bernartice Pavel Souhrada, the search for the history and pedigrees of Souhrada, Jiří Souhrada and Blanka Musílková, translator Vojta Souhrada from Prague. We have been exploring what we have been discovering in the last two years, and it was quite a bit, especially Blanka has found many new Souhradas, a bit far from Záboří, but they all fit into our common tree. For example, she traced one of Alexandra Souhrada, who was shot down in the First World War in Romania and the second Alexander Souhrade shot down in the Second World War. There was a traditional exhibition of the history of the Souhradas in Bohemia and America, the Valentine Horby exhibition, the beauty of South Bohemia, a 20-meter-long pedigree, where most of the Souhrades are located. We have documents about Souhradas from the years 1550-1950, and other areas in southern Bohemia, where the Souhradas are mentioned in the old Gruntov books.

The reunion was attended by Souhradas from America, Austria, Sweden and Bohemia. Jaroslav arrived as usual with his plane to Tábor airport. New Souhradas arrived from North Bohemia and from Znojmo. We shared a video from the Souhrada reunion in Iowa 2018 and other historical documents. The studio Antonina Talafouse from Protivin Studio was accompanied by us. Finally, we sang with chorus of Zdeněk Souhrada, singer Vladimir Souhrada, both of Souhrada's mill in Srl, Vojta Souhrada and Jirka Souhrada, vocals and guitars. Dancing pairs mainly by Jarda Souhrada from Tachov and Věra Souhradová from Písek, Jirka Souhradů and Hana from Prague.

There was plenty of good food, coat cup souvenirs, Souhradovice homemade plums, T-shirts, artistic glassware Blanka Musielka, whiskey with cinnamon from Joe Powelka and his dad also Joe Powelka from Wisconsin, USA. Interesting documents were brought by Josef Souhrada from Vienna.

We hope to meet again in the next meeting in 2020.  We wish all of us good health and good mood for the years to come.
